Arenas & Supermarkets


Commercial and institutional buildings that have refrigeration systems, such as arenas and supermarkets, are a significant source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, due to their relatively high energy consumption on a per unit area basis, and their use of synthetic refrigerants. Software & Data
The RETScreen Software Energy Efficient Arena & Supermarket Project Model can be used world-wide to easily evaluate the energy savings, life-cycle costs and greenhouse gas emissions reduction for projects that incorporate advanced refrigeration systems and other energy efficiency measures. The model can be used to evaluate these measures for supermarkets and arenas (ice rinks for hockey, skating or curling). For example, it is possible to provide all of the heat needed by these types of buildings, including space heating, ventilation air and hot water, by simply recovering heat rejected from the refrigeration system. It is also possible to significantly reduce the amount of refrigerant losses, with substantial greenhouse gas savings, through the use of secondary loops. These and a series of other energy efficiency measures can lead to substantial energy, cost and greenhouse savings for arenas and supermarkets.
