- An industrial process produces about 100 MWh of waste heat from a power generator
- The industrial process has a 1,000 kW heat load operating 16 h/d and a 100 ton refrigeration load operating 12 h/d
- The heat is provided from a natural gas fired boiler
- Refrigeration is from an electrical chiller
- Install waste heat recovery on the power generator to recover 50% of the heat at a cost of $10,000
- Install a water to water heat exchanger to recover heating and cooling energy from the industrial process system for an additional $10,000
- Characteristics of the stream flows in the heat exchanger are:
- Heat exchanger efficiency 70%
